Biography
Nilita Vachani is an internationally awarded documentary filmmaker with the films, WHEN MOTHER COMES HOME FOR CHRISTMAS, DIAMONDS IN A VEGETABLE MARKET and EYES OF STONE to her credit. Her awards include the Grand Prize at the Festival dei Popoli; Basil Wright Prize of the Royal Anthropological Institute's Film Festival; Golden Conch at the Bombay International Film Festival; Prix Alcan du Jury at the Montreal International Film Festival for Women; Uppsala Filmkaja Best Documentary in Sweden; Asian Film Academy's Best Television Documentary in London, First Prize at the Torino International Film Festival for Women and the Rajat Kamal, National Award, in India. She has worked with Mira Nair as an Assistant Director and Script Supervisor, and as a Film Editor on other documentaries. Her first novel, HOMESPUN was published by Other Press in 2008.
